Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
This first aid training
course is accredited with the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations
Regulator (QFQUAL) and the Welsh Assembly Department for Children, Education,
Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS).
The course
qualifies candidates for vocationally related qualifications which attract
funding under Section 96 and/or Section 97 of the Learning and Skills
Act 2000 and are eligible to be used to qualify candidates taking part
in ESF and SME funded programmes.
The Level
2 Certificate in Emergency First Aid at Workplace provides candidates
with an opportunity to study and be assessed for both the practical
and knowledge aspects of emergency first aid in a workplace environment.
This is a 7 hour (1 day) course and provides candidates with the skills,
knowledge and understanding of emergency first aid, to provide appropriate
care and manage life threatening conditions, illness and injuries that
may occur in a workplace environment. It offers the opportunity for
an individual who may become the Appointed Person or Emergency First
Aider. To gain the skills and knowledge to provide quality and effective
first aid whenever the need may occur. This is achieved through an understanding
of the general duties, legal responsibilities and treatment principles
of first aid.
Assessment
Candidates
will be internally assessed against the assessment criteria of the qualification
using a marking guide that is externally set and moderated. The internal
assessment is conducted by the candidates’ facilitator/assessor
using ongoing practical assessment combined with oral questioning of
underpinning knowledge, understanding and application.

To ensure
there is appropriate support for and monitoring of candidates during
practical sessions the delivery of the qualification is required to
operate at a ratio of one qualified facilitator/assessor to a maximum
of 12 candidates.
Approvals
The content
of this qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety
(First Aid) Regulations 1981 for appointed persons in the workplace
and will qualify the candidate to take on the role of the Emergency
First Aider (EFAW). Candidates will still need to complete a full First
Aid at Work (FAW) course if they will be required to be a First Aid
at Work provider.
