Welsh Workplace Injury Statistics 2005/2006
A total of 2.2 million work days were lost in Wales in the last year (2005/2006) due to illness or injury which averages 2 full days lost for every worker.
During the same 12 month period, 102,00 people in Wales suffered illness or injury at work or believed injuries were made worse by work, i.e. 4.6% percent of the workforce.
13 people sustained fatal injuries in a workplace, 5 of the deaths being members of the public.
There were 1647 major injuries and 6323 less severe but resulting in more than 3 lost workdays.

During the year the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) initiated 34 prosecutions in Wales, 22 led to conviction. The average fine on conviction was £9,907 compared to £5,772 to previous year when there were 23 prosecutions which all led to conviction.Source: HSE
